On 10 September this year, a webinar entitled ‘State aid for the development of wind energy – where and how to effectively obtain support’ was held, devoted to public support for the wind energy sector.

The development of renewable energy sources, especially wind energy, involves high investment costs and various risks – technological, regulatory and financial – which often exceed the capabilities of individual investors or companies. With public support, it is easier to overcome these obstacles by implementing not only large infrastructure investments, but also research and development projects, innovative implementations and the development of products and services supporting the renewable energy sector.

Support from the state and the EU also aims to support entire supply chains – from component manufacturing, through logistics and service, to end users and prosumers. It is also important that current public policy, both at national and EU level, increasingly supports companies that contribute to broad economic goals related to green transformation, digitalisation and energy security.

However, access to public funds alone is not enough. Effective use of aid requires adequate knowledge of financing mechanisms, skilful planning and management of projects and budgets. It is also crucial to ensure that investments are implemented correctly so as not to lose support and avoid having to repay it.

Joanna Prokurat and Magdalena Stachera, experts at TPA Poland, and Dominika Taranko, Managing Director and Vice-President of Wind Industry Hub, discussed the types and forms of support available, who can benefit from it, how to maximise benefits by combining various public aid instruments, and what the current and upcoming calls for proposals are.

We encourage you to watch the webinar broadcast!
