The development of offshore wind energy is a real opportunity for construction, technology and industrial companies. Wind farms in the Baltic Sea are expected to reach a capacity of 18 GW by 2040. This means tens of billions of zlotys in investments, of which as much as 1/3 will be spent on onshore components.
During the recent meeting organised jointly by Wind Industry Hub, Polish Construction Employers’ Association and DWF (Poland), entitled “Wind energy in the Baltic Sea – conclusions from phase I and opportunities for Polish construction and industry”, we had the opportunity to discuss the future of this sector in detail.
💬 The event was opened by a presentation by Dominika Taranko (Managing Director, Vice-President, Wind Industry Hub), in which she discussed the prospects for the development of the OWF sector and planned investments for the coming years. This presentation kicked off a dynamic panel discussion entitled ‘How to increase the participation of Polish companies in the next phases of OWFs?’, with the participation of representatives of the administration, developers, the financial sector, contractors and technical experts. The panel was moderated by Maciej Mierzwiński (President of the Management Board, CEE Energy Group), and the panellists included:
➡️Bartosz Fedurek (President of the Management Board, PGE Baltica)
➡️ Grzegorz Kotte (Head of Offshore Wind, Polenergia)
➡️ Paulina Kusy (Deputy Director of the Investment Development Department, Ministry of Development and Technology)
➡️ Paweł Przybylski (President of the Management Board, ONDE)
➡️ Piotr Urbaniec (Head of Business Development, Baltic Industrial Group)
➡️ Wojciech Górnicki (Head of Supply Chain, ORLEN NEPTUN)
🗣️ Another panel discussion entitled ‘Cooperation between parties – how to effectively implement contracts in the MFW sector?’ was moderated by Łukasz Gembiś (Local Partner, DWF (Poland)) and attended by:
➡️ Berenika Sepczyńska (Senior Legal Manager, Ocean Winds)
➡️ Marta Kosacz-Sobotka (Vice President, NDI Group)
➡️ Mariusz Mazur (Engineering Director, Ramboll Polska)
➡️ Maciej Stryjecki (CEO, ASE Offshore Sp. z o.o. / Baltic Energy Transformation Institute (BETI))
🎯 Conclusions? The development of Polish local content in the offshore wind sector is a shared responsibility and a strategic challenge. We need consistent regulations, effective knowledge transfer and trust between all market participants.
We would like to thank all speakers and participants for their substantive and open discussion. It is meetings like these that lay the foundations for the future of the offshore wind sector in Poland.
